From Vendors to Vibes: Why Anime NYC’s First Day Felt Strange
bigger and longer than ever yet something’s missing.
after the first Day of anime nyc I’m left with this nagging feeling that there’s something different from the cons I used to roam. That could be that the organizers have extended the con to Thursday afternoon and the programming understandably Didn’t account for that since there wasn’t much to “do” out side of the Netflix Showcase if you’re not participating in one of the handful of cosplay Meet ups.

Let’s not kid ourselves here, conventions have always been dominated by Big sponsors. Even given that fact walking the show floor it hit me that there were notably less small venders Then years past. This could be for all kinds of reasons the world has gotten way less forgiving after all.
That didn’t stop me from wanting more out of the first day then a admittedly fun Netflix show and tell that offered every thing from exclusive trailers to special guests from the teams behind shows like Sakamoto Days and Blue Eyes Samurai and the upcoming Splinter Cell show. Especially given the large amount of people I saw with Thursday only badges who won’t get to experience the panels and screenings on offer on the other three days.
