The Subtle Genius of Secrets of the Silent Witch: How Anime Portrays Talent and Craft Differently
it’s hard to write about genius without falling into the trap of treating it like a gift from on high or creating a servant like character but, Ithink anime excels at it. This is possible because Japanese culture has such a different relationship with the concoction craft people. A show like Secrets Of The Silent Witch looks much different if it’s created by an American team that hasn’t grown up with a culture of raising people to be creative craft people in the tradition of a culture that sees it arts as equal to its other industries. My guess would be be that Monica would be much more of a “mary sue” character than she I currently. It also helps that the show is an adaptation of a light novel series as the written word generally has a wider scope of what it’s willing to do with it’s characters then more visual media.
